See you all back July 11th at the Shamrock for the next Sybille Creek Shoot after Hell on Wheels - August 8th is the WySAS Wyoming "Top Gun" shoot in Lander, Wyoming. We will want to take as many to the shoot as possible to defend our possession of the Governors Trophy. Let us know who will be going and who will be here to man the range.
Saturday June 13 2009 Great weather and a relax atmosphere made this a very good shoot. The range is green and the air was fresh except for an occasional draft of Wyatt T's powder smoke. The rusty duo of Wyoming Roy and Morning Glory took top honors for the day. Shamrock Taco Salad and the bluegrass music welcomed us back to Madam Laura's Shamrock Saloon after the posse finished their duties.
May 9th turnout. What a great day with the nice weather, five good stages and a great posse. It was lead by Hirem Kelly and Wild Iris with their guns blazing. Cyrus Noble took no prisinors. Congratulations on shooting a clean match Cyrus. Some of the ladies stayed back at the Shamrock Saloon where "chili dogs" were ready when the gunsmoke finally cleared.
On April 11th - Hirem Kelly and Two Dot ride the range and collected less dust than the other riders. Cross You Less hides the egg from Big Jim right over the wires. (Nice Throw Les) Sybille Slick mixes up the ammo for an entertaining last stage. Oh yeah, Hirem shoots a clean match. A good time considering all the work we had to do rounding up the rustlers.
In March We expected 23 Hombres - Including Regulators, Vigilantees, Shooters, Greenies, and Escapees from Wyoming Territorial Prison in Laramie. Had a fast and furious shootout in the Sybille Canyon Country. Hostages were held by the bandito's. Lunch was at Laura's Shamrock Saloon. Bring a guest to the next shoot.
The February shoot was canceled due to the weather. The forcast called for more snow Friday night and Saturday with temperatures in the teens and twenties. Hopefully all got to shoot the next week at Pawnee Station.
January brought out 5 brave posse members. Hole Puncher, Deputy Cuny, and Cross You Les split the reward.
We started the shoot with a mix up between the rifle and pistol targets. Thanks Deputy. The crisp morning air warmed up to about 65 and the wind stopped during the third and fourth stage and part of the 5th stage. Then we were glad we started the shoot pretty early as the wind came in in time for us to appreciate Laura's hospitality in the Saloon beneath Madames Bordello.
December Shoot - Ruff Waters blows by the posse to take top honors. There was plenty of fresh air for the nine shooters shooting five stages. The stages went by with only one close call as Morning Glory puts a hole in Laramie Plainsman's hat. New shooter Primrose cleans stage three and shows promise that help fill in the ladies classes for the club. Laura's ham and beans was plentiful and noone went home hungry.
Scores Posted Oct and Nov shoots The November shoot went off without a hitch. We had great weather for November and around 27 shooters battling for top honors. A number of new shooters came out to see what CAS is all about and enjoyed themselves as they learned. Laura fixed a great meal of beef stew and home made biscuts that went down real good after shooting all morning.
October Shoot We had snow and sleet to welcome "California Joe" visiting from the state of Washington. The Shamrock Saloon sure felt good as the fire place warmed us as we enjoyed Laura's cooking. Hirem Kelly inched out Wyomean Roy for top spot but only because he shot faster.
September Shoot "I didn't know the wind blew like this in Wyoming!"
One visitor was "drafted" inot the posse which had two newby Tenderfoots" . The nineteen shooters braved the pleasant weather to run through the five main stages. A fearsome trio from Colorado impressed the posse with "Briggsdale Marksmanship" which ws needed on a couple of the stages. The border couple, Knight Creek Ranger and Sassey Cue, were the Top Guns for September. Lunch was ready on time but the music of the Shamrock Jam Session started later in the afternoon.
In August Gunslingers from Arizona, South Dakota, Colorado and Nebraska joined the Wyoming posse members to have a great shoot-out Sat Aug 9th. Short periods of drizzle lowered the fire danger and softened the grass for the range bulls meandering about. Tom Horn history has some folks murmuring.
Sling'n Lead spewed beer suds all over the prairie right before his beer can hit the ground to gain the fastest time of the Wyoming Single Action Shooters annual Top Gun shoot. The time margin was merely 3/10 second from second fastest time put in by Knight Creek Ranger who stood in awe after his beer can was broken and his beer was all over the prairie. Sassy Cue was quick and steady to get the fastest ladies time. Sassy also lead the Sybille Creek Shooters team to win the Governor Jim Gerringer Award for the second year in a row. The J.R. Dalton Traveling Trophy Award was won by Morning Glory shooting Lady 49'r.
Side Match results:
Speed Rifle - Soda Creek Jack - 5.36 sec.
Speed Pistol - Knight Creek Ranger - 6.96 sec.
Speed Shotgun '97 - Knight Creek Ranger - 9.16 sec.
Speed Shotgun Double - Pinewood Kid - 14.05 sec.
Team Rifle - Hirem Kelly & Wyoming Roy - 5.70 sec.
.22 Baby Buffalo - Hirem Kelly - 16.34 sec
In July, Onray outshot all the other posse member to take the top honors. Madame Bulldog was the top lady shooter. Three new shooters were smiling as they got back to the Shamrock Saloon. We all enjoyed the ribs and refreshments.
In June, Breed and Knight Creek Ranger went head to head and the Top Gun was decided on the last stage. Twenty other gun slingers had plenty of fun shooting smoke and running the bad guys down. The two flowers who were on the posse added color and class to the eventful morning.
